    What Engages Executives? (v. 1.0)

So far in this blog, I've approached the question of what engages executives by examining individual pieces of this mercurial puzzle.

This post is an attempt to step back from the pieces -- the tactics and channels -- in an effort to see the overall picture.  With your input, I'll refine this framework and issue new "releases" in the coming months.

    Version 1.0:

Executives are engaged by five types of opportunities:

    • Access – To otherwise hard-to-obtain experiences, relationships, or information
    • Contribution - To a goal or cause that matters to them
    • Insight – About their industry, organization, or profession
    • Relationships - With peers, based on trust, reciprocity, and shared experience
    • Reputation – To enhance their position in their organization and industry

Each of these opportunities have great value for an executive. If I had to choose, I'd pick Access, then Relationship, then Insight.

Where does the almighty dollar fit in--- the opportunity of making a buck?

This is very a simple yet valuable perspective. Great start for v1. I do think that insight and the ability to help executives "think through" critical issues that ultimately provides the clarity and confidence to move forward is the biggest long term benefit. This is also what keeps the door open to executives on an on-going basis. .
